I am Subharthi Ray, Associate Professor in the Astrophysics and Cosmology Research Unit, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. I completed my graduation and masters from the Calcutta University, Kolkata, India and my PhD degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. I had been a PostDoctoral Fellow at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, India, Instituto de Fisica, Universidade Federal Fluminense, RJ, Brasil, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, India, before joining the UKZN.
My research interest is broadly Theoretical Astrophysics, General Relativity and Cosmology.
Physics and astrophysics of compact stars had been my primary research area. They include equation of state for matter at high density, effect of strong charge and high magnetic field inside matter at very high density, and also the rotation and pulsation modes of the compact stars.
Interest in Cosmology is in the estimation of CMB anisotropy, study of the inflation models, explore non-gaussianity, etc.
My other research area is the classical Einsteinian Theory of General Relativity, along with the modifications to the same, applied to the cosmological large scales and also to the strong gravity regime.
